East Midlands – PEDLs 180, 181, 182, 201 and 241

The licences are located in the East Midlands Basin of northeast England. The East Midlands Basin is the main historic centre of oil production in onshore England. The licences were awarded in July 2008 for an initial 6-year term.

Licences PEDLs 180, 181, 182 and 241 lie on the north flank of the basin and contain a number of oil discoveries that can be fully evaluated for the first time due to the availability of 3D seismic. The reservoir objectives are Carboniferous sands sealed by intervening shales and sourced from an underlying Lower Carboniferous shale source rock. In addition to the potential of bypassed discoveries a large block faulted high, also covered by the 3D, has been identified at North Kelsey in PEDL 241.

Licence PEDL 201 is in the Widmerpool sub basin where the reservoir objective is Carboniferous sands sealed by intervening shales and sourced from an underlying Lower Carboniferous shale source rock. A series of prospects and leads have been identified that require further work to mature for drilling. Unconventional potential exists in the Carboniferous Dinantian shales.
